About this Event
Come create your very own felt pin inspired by Julia Kown's interpretive bojagi creations. Traditional Korean patchwork bojagi is made of fabric remnants, typically cotton or silk, and then used to wrap clothing or gifts.
You will pick one of three designs created by the artist to base your creation on, or run with your own design idea! The finished project can be pinned to your backpack, jacket, tote, beanie hat, etc.
This workshop is a great opportunity to play with fabric, think about pattern and design, and learn about the tradition of Korean bojagi.
Make sure to drop in with enough time to explore and create-- at least 20 minutes . Appropriate for kids and adults.

About the Artist
sews interpretative Korean object-wrapping cloths (bojagi) to comment on received notions on Asiatic femininity and the interconnected systems of oppression. She embeds patterns from contemporary sociopolitical events into her work to challenge the notion of authenticity and examine the complexities of constructing identities within the context of globalization, cultural hybridity, intersectionality, and the collective struggle for social justice. Her work argues for more capacious possibilities for identity and sense of community.
Kwon’s work is in the permanent collections of Smithsonian American Art Museum and Renwick Gallery (Washington, DC), Museum of Fine Arts (Boston, MA), Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum (New York, NY), Museum of International Folk Art (Santa Fe, NM), New York Public Library (New York, NY), among others. Her work has been highlighted in Smithsonian Magazine, CNN, The Washington Post, Korea.net, PBS/WETA Arts, Arirang News, SBS News, and The Wedding Banquet (2025, directed by Andrew Ahn). She was awarded residencies at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Chautauqua School of Art, Headlands Center for the Arts, Santa Fe Art Institute, Textile Arts Center, Vermont Studio Center, and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
