About this Event
Taking place four times a year, our artist brunches are an opportunity to get feedback on your creative work from other artists, while digesting food and ideas in a supportive environment.
Our co-director Rosie Crane Eckmire will be joined by ‘Canny Valley’ exhibiting artist Ana Kazaroff who will curate a brunch menu. This will be shared a week before the event - you’re also welcome to bring your own snacks. Sessions will include the opportunity to get to know one another as well as sharing your work.
Participants will only be able to show work once per year. To ensure dietary needs are accommodated there will be no drop-in spaces available - let us know your dietary needs 7 days in advance so we know in time to order the food! If you need support with signing up, please get in touch or drop-by Turf and we can book you in!
Spots will be limited to 8 bookable spaces per session, with 3 artists sharing work.
ABOUT ANA:
Ana Kazaroff (b. Buenos Aires, Argentina) lives and works in London. Informed by the processes of hybridisation and the mistranslations that happen when elements from one culture travel and adapt to a new one, her practice merges sculpture, painting, and craft-based processes to explore questions of authenticity and mistranslations. She makes installations where she uses paintings and sculptures made of wood, polystyrene and plaster painted to look like different surfaces, drawing connections between everyday materials, such as processed meats and stone.
Kazaroff is a graduate of the MA Fine Art programme at City & Guilds of London Art School, where she specialised in faux marble painting techniques. Her work has been exhibited in Eastside Projects, Division of Labour, Kupfer, Galería Grasa (Buenos Aires) and Neoramart (Paris), and was reviewed by The White Pube and featured in Vogue Mexico. She has been awarded a Develop Your Creative Practice grant by Arts Council England.
She is currently undertaking a PhD at the Slade School of Fine Art, supported by the London Arts and Humanities Research Partnership (LAHP). Her research project explores how the endangered heritage craft of faux finishes can be adapted to disrupt the colonial norms embedded within this tradition by connecting them to viveza criolla, a Latin American concept translated as 'creole cunning': the art of roguish deception.
