About this Event
In this session we will look at the way artists have used light and colour as subjects in their own right to explore optics, emotion and spirituality. From Renaissance symbolism to Impressionism and beyond, we will investigate the changing relationship we have with colour.
Art Talkin’ is a series of open discussions looking at different approaches to making and viewing art, led by local artist Howard Porter. This series of open ended discussions will focus on how we approach art, construct meaning and evaluate our responses. We will reference art history and concepts drawn from philosophy and other disciplines in order to examine our relationship with art. Each session will be guided by an opening proposition or art historical reference but participants will be encouraged to formulate their own ideas and contribute to the group. Artist attendees will be encouraged to discuss their own work or that of others if they wish but no previous art theory experience is required, just an openness to ideas. The sessions are open to artists and anybody with an interest in or curiosity about art
