We’re excited to for Vol. 4 of Art Proxima — a new (FREE) monthly meetup series from ACI Foundation focused on the issues, opportunities, and ideas shaping our local arts community.Join us for a business planning discussion called "The Cost of Doing Community - Lessons Learned and Strategies for Mitigating Rising Event Costs", with case studies from the Ska Reggae Festival on Tuesday Oct 20th at Haus of Owl.
Our Speaker: Nev Gibson, Operations Manager for the Victoria Ska and Reggae Society and Festival
Nev has been running sound for concerts and building tools to get the word out about live shows in Victoria since the late '90s, including building LiveVictoria.com. In this business planning focused Art Proxima Nev will be talking about how the Ska Reggae Society has been leveraging partnerships with other events, custom technology, and their event equipment and services program to stay in the black, while supporting many many other organizations.
Topic:
• We’ll kick things off at 6:00 PM with informal networking and Community Pulse — a chance for attendees to share a quick (60-second) intro, ask, or offer.
• At 6:45 PM our guest speaker will take to the mic, including lots of opportunity for discussion and questions.
• From 8:00–9:00 PM, we’ll continue the conversation with more time to connect.
This session will be of particular interest to you if you:
• Want to hear some inspiring examples of how a long-running local festival's out-of-the-box thinking has helped them stay afloat.
• Love hearing stories of mutually-beneficial collaborations between arts organizations.
• Are working on — or exploring — projects that may require multiple revenue streams.
• Want to connect with others in the arts and culture community.
Location & Accessibility:
The event will take place at Haus of Owl, located at 780 Blanshard Street on the 4th floor. The space is accessible with elevator access, gender-inclusive washrooms.
