About this Event

Art Kintsugi Introductory Workshop

Join us for a hands-on experience where you'll learn the ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi. Discover the beauty of embracing imperfections and repairing broken ceramics with gold.

Come unleash your creativity and leave with a unique piece of art that tells a story.

Kintsugi is a century-old Japanese craft where broken ceramic objects are pieced back together, using ancient Urushi lacquer and gold dust, based on the philosophy of Wabi Sabi finding beauty in imperfection.

The process transforms much loved worn items into a beautifully crafted new piece of art. It is a chance to live a more sustainable way, and to rescue objects which would otherwise be discarded.

You will take home your own ceramic object that you have repaired using the art of Kintsugi.

You will also gain the skills needed so that you can repair further items at home should you wish to continue using the art of Kintsugi.

All materials are provided.

Please note the gallery is moving and this workshop will be held at the gallery's new premises, in the Town of Gawler Council Administration Building located directly behind Fasta Pasta.

About Art Kintsugi workshop:

Duration: 4 hours (without break)

Class contents: Participants will learn the introductory technique of Art Kintsugi mending following 7 essential Kintsugi steps using safer and accessible materials (epoxy, lacquer and gold metal powder as an alternative to Urushi and 24K gold), and take home a piece of their own Kintsugi art.

We will talk about the history of Kintsugi and important culture and philosophy behind it, as well as ancient materials and tools.

The workshop is designed for the participants to be able to start practicing and do their own projects at home, using the skills they learnt in the workshop.

Tools and materials: All tools and materials needed for the workshop are provided.

Each attendee will receive a small ceramic piece suitable for the workshop, that we will have prepared for each person to work on and take home after the workshop.

We cannot repair attendees’ own pieces brought into the group workshop. However, they will learn the skills needed at the workshop to repair them later themselves.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn a timeless craft in a welcoming environment. As this is a small group workshop, there are strictly limited places, so book now to avoid disapointment.
