Join us for Art in Flux, an evening of new and in-progress works by regional artists exploring storytelling, identity, and creative expression through movement and performance.
Featured Artists
Parisha Rajbhandari, Juliet Irving
About the work: This work in process is a shared investigation of identity, language and ancestral technology. With water as the life force in their collaboration, Juliet brings her sense of world making into Parisha’s creative process and embodied research. The cyclical nature of water has allowed Juliet and Parisha to investigate intergenerational softness, fluidity, and care underneath the unsettling phases of “in-between”.
Additional Artist:
Sukanya Burman
About the work: Common ground is a solo that brings Kathak rhythm work into conversation with the energy of North American folk traditions. Repeated steps and turns become sites of exchange, where familiar patterns acquire unexpected accents. The dancer searches for common ground through the physical work of listening and responding.
About the artists:
Parisha Rajbhandari (she/her) is a Newari Nepali dance artist, choreographer, embodied researcher and an educator. Her movement practice is rooted in vibrations, sounds, rhythms, body memory, and spinal articulation. Deeply activated by rhythmic and spinal exploration, Parisha approaches dance-making as a process of inquiry, risk-taking, exchange, and relationship-building. Her choreographic work is grounded in connection—with people, ancestors, cultures, and social dimensions. Parisha is practitioner of street styles, hip hop and house, and is actively learning and growing within street and club dance cultures. She is a cohort at the Rennie Harris Univeristy, building street styles knowledge, and deepening pedagogical practices. Her work has been presented through residencies and curated platforms such as Move to Change (2025), Red Eye Works in Progress (2024), Keshet Makers Space (2024), Tiger Balm (2025), ChoreoLab (2025) and Minnesota State University productions (2015–2025). She has performed at venues including Jacob’s Pillow, Links Hall, O’Shaughnessy Auditorium, LA Skirball, John Michael Kohler Arts Center, and the Cowles Center. Parisha trained, toured, and taught with Ananya Dance Theatre from 2019-2025. In 2024, she earned her M.F.A. in Dance and Choreography from Minnesota State University. In Fall 2025, Parisha joined the dance department of State University of New York at Fredonia as the Assistant Professor of Dance.
Juliet Irving (she/they) is a multimedia artist, graphic designer, and choreographer hailing from Monetta, SC. She earned her MFA in Embodied Interdisciplinary Praxis and a master’s certificate in African and African-American Studies from Duke University, along with a BA in Dance Studies and BFA in Graphic Design from Appalachian State University. Juliet is invested in cultivating radical imagination in rural BIPOC communities with a multidisciplinary practice that immerses audiences into worlds of possibility. Through her work with community members, she continues developing improvisational practices for environmental exploration and collaborative storytelling. Her work has been presented at the International Conference on Movement and Computing, CADD, ACDA, and the Spring Appalachian Dance Ensemble. Juliet has performed in Bill T. Jones’ Continuous Replay restaged by Andrea E. Woods Valdés, in ADF’s Creative Healing Parade, with SLIPPAGE, and in works choreographed by Sherone Price, Marianne Adams, Laurie Atkins, Teena Marie Custer, and Dante Brown
Sukanya Burman (she/her) is an Indian American dancer, choreographer, educator, and cultural producer currently based in Jamestown. She is the Founder and Executive Artistic Director of Sukanya Burman Dance, curator/producer of the Jamestown Dance Festival and an adjunct professor at Alfred University. A recipient of multiple New York State Council on the Arts Artist Awards, she has also been recognized through her work as a Sector Coordination Committee member for the Western New York Arts and Culture Initiative through the Ralph C Wilson Jr Foundation, a fellowship at Jacob’s Pillow Curriculum in Motion, and as a project member at New York State DanceForce. Her choreographic and arts advocacy work brings global context to contemporary dance practice while expanding access to professional dance and encouraging cross-cultural dialogue.
