This month’s screening is The Colour of Ink, a documentary that explores the mystery, history, and creative possibilities of one of humanity’s oldest art materials through the work of Toronto inkmaker Jason Logan.Using ingredients foraged from the world around him—including weeds, berries, bark, flowers, rocks, and rust—Logan creates inks from unexpected materials. He then sends his handmade inks to artists around the world, from a New Yorker cartoonist to a Japanese calligrapher, revealing how each artist responds to the unique colours and qualities of the ink.
Full of experimentation, colour, and curiosity, The Colour of Ink looks at our connection to the materials we use to make art and the creative possibilities that can be found in the natural and everyday world.
