Noted for his “luxuriant baritone” (San Diego Story), Luke Harnish is quickly gaining recognition as a nuanced performer of opera, oratorio, and recital repertoire. Among his upcoming engagements are a role debut as Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance with Annapolis Opera, All Is Calm with The Atlanta Opera, and Mahler's 8th Symphony with Allegro Orchestra Lancaster.
Performed repertoire highlights include the title role in Eugen Onegin, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Argante in Rinaldo, Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Schaunard in La bohème, Melchior in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Zuniga in Carmen, Dick Deadeye in H.M.S. Pinafore, Barone Douphol and Dottore Grenville in La traviata, McCarthy/Interrogator/Estonian Frank in Fellow Travelers, Apollo in L’Orfeo, Doctor in Macbeth, and Happy in La faniulla del West. Harnish has also covered prominent roles such as Escamillo (Carmen), Nick Shadow (The Rake’s Progress), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), and Il Conte di Walter (Luisa Miller). A strong advocate of new works, he has performed in multiple world premieres, including Gregory Spears’ The Righteous with The Santa Fe Opera.
Mr. Harnish has performed with The Atlanta Opera, The Glimmerglass Festival, Nashville Opera, Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Sarasota Opera, Pacific Northwest Opera, Wichita Grand Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Opera Neo, and other organizations throughout the country. His concert and recital credits include performances of Messiah, The Creation, Lord Nelson Mass, Serenade to Music, Ich habe genug, Dichterliebe, and Schwanengesang.
