About this Event
Communities learn better when they eat together.
Toward Equitable Futures is a community dinner series designed around a simple but powerful premise: that communities learn better together when they also eat together. Please join the Center for Racial Justice and Equitable Futures and our community partners for catered dinners and public forums that brings together faculty, students, researchers, and Ithaca residents around shared food and shared inquiry. Each dinner features a 30-minute presentation followed by a moderated panel discussion. At their core, the dinners are an investment in community-rooted relationship-building that makes justice work possible.
Art & Latino Civic Association
Yen Ospina will speak about being a local artist, community maker, curator, founder of her nomadic Orozco Gallery, and the president of Latino Civic Association, a non-profit organization in Tompkins, NY.
Yen Ospina is a Colombian-American self-taught artist working across digital and traditional mediums to create work rooted in storytelling. Inspired by folklore, etching, and lithography, her digital pieces feature layered narratives and saturated earth tones. Her abstract paintings shift inward, exploring emotion and introspection. Based in Ithaca, Yen has painted over seven murals and curates exhibitions through her nomadic Orozco Gallery, centering underrepresented & established artists. As president of the Latino Civic Association, she organizes events celebrating the Hispanic/Latine community. Since beginning in 2013, she now works full-time as an artist.
This dinner will take place from 6–8pm at GIAC – Greater Ithaca Activities Center (301 W Court St.). Catered dinner by Vivies Comfort Cuisine will be provided free of charge. Please register in advance and let us know if you have any food allergies we should be aware of.
