Following the IU Cinema screening of The Christophers continue the conversation at the Eskenazi Museum of Art with a special program led by Jean Graves, Meier Chair of Education.Steven Soderbergh’s film, The Christophers, raises fascinating questions about authorship, authenticity, and value. We prize originality, art as the brainchild of a single artist, completed in a burst of passionate activity. However, many art objects defy this assumption: they may be products of workshops; completed in stages or left incomplete; and/or repaired once or multiple times. Join Dr. Graves to explore how objects in the museum’s collections have been affected by conservators, restorers, assistants, and the original artists, themselves. We’ll tour the galleries, examining items ranging from antiquity to only a few decades old. Meet at the museum’s 7th St. entrance.
Bio: Jean Graves is the Meier Chair of Education at the Eskenazi Museum of Art. She earned her MA in Art History from Boston University and PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from Indiana University.
