What does it mean to say that “all men are created equal” and to declare this a self-evident truth? In what ways are — or should we be — equal? How does this ideal of equality show up in our daily lives, our communities, and our politics? In honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Grants Pass branch is hosting an Oregon Humanities conversation exploring how the ideal of equality has changed over the past 250 years — and how it might change over the next 250.
Are We Created Equal? is an Oregon Humanities Community Conversation, part of its Beyond 250 initiative, which brings Oregonians together in 2026 to reflect on democracy, freedom, and the future of our communities during the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. A library card is not required to participate.
