About this Event

From non-invasive survey to excavation and public engagement: recent work at Castilly Henge

If you have ever driven the A30 dual carriageway west of Bodmin you will have unknowingly passed within metres of Castilly Henge. Defined by an oval bank and an internal ditch Castilly is a significant but often overlooked prehistoric earthwork located on the spine of mid-Cornwall. This seminar outlines recent research by Historic England to better understand this scheduled monument and inform its future management. Research to date has comprised using non-invasive survey techniques to contextualise and understand the site followed by targeted excavation. The Castilly project has also highlighted the potential of working in partnership with local heritage organisations to engage and involve communities in archaeological research.
