About this Event
Journey north for an afternoon of history, spirits, and cocktails as we explore Scandinavia's fascinating drinking traditions through aquavit—the distinctive spirit that has shaped Nordic culture for centuries. Learn about the Nordic tradition of infusing and flavoring spirits with seed spices and more.
Get hands-on as we explore aquavit and learn the techniques behind cocktails that showcase this uniquely Nordic spirit. Along the way, we’ll travel through the history of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Iceland, discovering how geography, trade, foodways, celebration, and tradition shaped the region’s drinking culture.
This class is part of our It’s Five O'Clock Somewhere series, a global cocktail journey into the flavors, traditions, and stories behind the spirits of American cocktail culture. Simon Moorby and Erin Fasbender, mixologists at Hogwash Whiskey Den, teach you the fundamentals of mixology. Historian Renée Cebula of Raising the Bar shares the stories behind the spirits and the drinks. You’ll learn to craft cocktails and explore the featured spirit's cultural heritage.
