A hike on this portion of the Appalachian Trail loop at Lehigh Gap is a steep, rugged adventure featuring one of Pennsylvania's most famous and challenging rock scrambles.
Steep Climb: The hike starts climbing immediately from near the river level, gaining roughly 850 to 1,000 feet of elevation over a short distance.
Hands-and-Feet Action: A major portion of the ascent involves class 3 scrambling, where you must use your hands and feet to navigate massive rocks and steep sections like "the wall".
Not for Everyone: This strenuous section is not recommended if you have a fear of heights.
