Countertenor
Anthony Roth Costanzo
in conversation
In an extraordinary memoir of an unforgettable voice and operatic history, Anthony Roth Costanzo traces his own path as one of the world’s leading opera singers while exploring the countertenor’s history, from the legacy of the castrati to the voice’s influence on opera as an art form.
Fascinating and evocative, Countertenor provides a striking look at creativity, innovation, gender, sexuality, art, and subverting societal norms.
Dive into one of the world’s most ethereal singing voices and Costanzo’s inventive, irrepressible life, including a performance by the Grammy Award-winning singer himself.
“In the great age of countertenors, the idea of opera was being reset every two weeks, and they were at the absolute center of these innovations … Anthony is in some ways a reincarnation of this. He exists to transform the art form.” —Peter Sellars
