The next annual Small Telescope Workshop will be held January 26-27, 2027 at BAE in Broomfield CO.
About this Event

To all who have asked… (and the many who haven’t):

This is the initial announcement for the next annual Small Telescope Workshop (STW), to be held on January 26-27, 2027 at the BAE (formerly Ball Aerospace) PDF facility (7 Longs Peak Drive, Broomfield CO). As in previous years, the workshop will be held at the TS/SCI/NF level.
Feel free to share this message with others in your organization.
The STW is a classified venue for discussion of the role of small (typically <~1 meter) telescopes for space domain awareness. Representative topics of interest include:

· Operation of small telescopes and/or telescope networks

· Foreign small telescope systems

· Non-traditional or advanced concepts to improve SDA collection

· Concepts or examples involving the combination of small and larger telescopes

· Ground, air, or space-based collection concepts and systems

· Advanced processing architectures, algorithms, etc.

· Policy issues related to the above topics

Papers that address these or related topics are welcomed.
At this time, please take the following actions:
* Block the meeting dates on your calendar;
* Register and send visit requests per the instructions below (please don’t wait until the last minute);
* Let me know if you would like to present a paper, and provide me an unclassified working title (as a placeholder at this time, just to help develop the agenda).

Unless there is a problem, there is no reason to inform me of your plan to attend. I will be monitoring ticket sales via Eventbrite (see below).
The key dates are as follows:
* September 1, 2026: attendee registration opens via web-based Eventbrite. You can use credit cards, print a receipt for reimbursement, etc. (Note-the ticket provided by Eventbrite is not needed for attendance). In addition to the Eventbrite registration, you must separately submit your visit request. Visit request instructions are provided below. Please do not wait until the last minute.

* December 1, 2026: last date for authors to provide me of their desire to present. This is the deadline to inform me of your request to speak- the actual charts are not needed by this date. I anticipate a robust submission of papers, so early responses are recommended. Procedure: send me an unclassified title, brief (1 paragraph) abstract, and your name/affiliation/phone number/email. Selected presenters will be notified on/about 20 December. At that time, you will be provided with an intellipedia folder site to drop your charts, videos, etc into.

* January 15, 2027: Deadline for presenters to submit your briefing materials into the specified intellipedia folder. In case of issues, contact Jacob Griesbach at [email protected]

* January 15, 2027- last date for cancellation and refund of registration fees. If cancellation/refund is requested prior to this date, follow refund instructions on the Eventbrite webpage.

* January 26-27, 2027: Small Telescope Workshop, at BAE, Broomfield CO.

The registration fee is $400 for all attendees (includes both days). This fee offsets the expenses and effort required to organize and operate the workshop. Receipts are available via the Eventbrite website.
Note to presenters:

1) Hand carry of classified or unclassified presentations is NOT a viable option.
2) Submission of your presentation implies acceptance for us to post it on the JWICS intellipedia site that documents the proceedings. You are responsible to ensure proper security markings, and that there are no proprietary information or markings.
As a reminder, past presentations are posted on the following JWICS intellipedia site: https://intellipedia.intelink.ic.gov/wiki/SSA_Innovation:_Telescopes
