Join Black Women United for Action (BWUFA) and the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, together with community and coalition partners, for a powerful gathering of remembrance and community at George Washington’s Mount Vernon.
Hush Harbors honors the secret spiritual gatherings of enslaved Africans. In these sacred spaces, people came together beyond the watchful eyes of enslavers to pray, sing, find strength, preserve hope, and affirm their humanity.
On Saturday, October 3, 2026, we invite people of all races, backgrounds, generations, faiths, and communities to come together at the Slave Memorial at Mount Vernon to remember those who came before us and reflect on the enduring lessons of courage, faith, resilience, and hope.
This is more than a wreath-laying ceremony. It is an opportunity to honor our shared history, learn from it, and gather as one community committed to carrying its lessons forward.
