Please join us for our Annual General Meeting, an evening of community and fine food and a review of our annual achievements, to be held this year at Chez Angela Bakery and Café in downtown Brandon. And it's all on us! We'll conduct the annual general business, including the election of board members, and chair of the board Dave Barnes will once again host a slide show of our activities on the land. You'll be fascinated to see and hear what we've accomplished!It's been an unusual year for AFFI in many ways. First, there was the flooding in July that almost overwhelmed us, but that did finally recede and allow us to recover. And the mosquitoes! Over our thirteen years on this landscape, 2026 has been the "mosquito summer" of them all. It honestly was difficult to be outdoors without a head net for most of the month of July! We had to cancel many field trips and visiting groups, especially over the period of limited road access when the area was diked against flooding. And the riverside trail connecting the food forest to Crow's General Store was closed by high water for seven summer weeks, so our regular foot traffic was seriously reduced.
But volunteers pulled off some miracles in late summer, and our various gardens and ecological restorations have thrived due to their attention and the abundant moisture. It is so inspiring to see trees in the maple forest restoration growing almost exactly the way we had imagined they would. All this is to say, come on out and enjoy yourself on November 17th with some tales of nature's thriving, and a vision for ecological harmony here in our home place.
