One of the world’s leading concert pianists, Angela Hewitt returns to perform at Hugh’s Room this March.Born into a musical family, Angela began her piano studies at age three, performed in public at age four, and won her first scholarship a year later.
Angela’s award-winning cycle for Hyperion Records of all the major keyboard works of Bach has been described as “one of the record glories of our age” by The Sunday Times. She has won four JUNO Awards, including one for her album of Mozart Concertos with Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra.
She is a companion of the Order of Canada.
Ms Hewitt will perform Bach's Partita No. 5 in G major, BWV 829. She will then be joined by principal members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra: Sarah Jeffrey (oboe), Kelly Zimba (flute), Eric Abramovitz (clarinet), Marlene Ngalissamy (bassoon) and Neil Deland (horn). Together they will present Mozart's Piano and Wind Quintet in E-flat major, K 452 followed by Ludwig Thuille’s Sextet for Piano and Winds in B-Flat major, Op 6.
Eric Friesen is a broadcaster, writer, speaker and consultant on music, culture, broadcasting and religion in both Canada and the United States. He was a network host and executive for both CBC Radio and Minnesota Public Radio (NPR). Eric was the founding Program Director for Winnipeg’s classical and jazz station, Classic 107. He also continues to serve a wide variety of major cultural organizations in Canada and abroad as speaker and interviewer, including Angela Hewitt’s Trasimeno Music Festival in Italy. Eric makes his home on Amherst Island, just west of Kingston, Ontario. He was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 2019.
