About this Event
Part of the North East Entrepreneurship Week fringe programme, brought together by the Entrepreneurs' Forum.
About the session
For many growing businesses in the North East, an angel is the first outside investor they take on, yet how angel investment works is rarely explained plainly. Ciaron Gallagher and Rebecca Roberts, co-founders of Unity Angels, will explain it from both perspectives.
For founders
- What angel investing is, and who angels typically are
- Why angels invest, and what they bring beyond their capital
- What angels look for in a deal
- How a company moves through an angel group, from application to completion, and how we work together afterwards
- SEIS and EIS, and why they matter so much at this stage
- Practical advice on approaching an angel group
For prospective angels
If you are considering angel investing, the session will explain what it involves in practice and why so many experienced business people choose to do it, including:
- How investing within an established group allows you to share due diligence, spread your risk across several companies and learn from seasoned investors
- The tax reliefs available to investors through SEIS and EIS
- The opportunity to support ambitious North East businesses and to put your own experience to work as a mentor or board member
- The risks involved, and how to build a balanced portfolio over time
- What membership of Unity Angels involves, and the support we offer new members
Who it is for
Founders considering raising angel investment and experienced business professionals considering becoming an angel investor.
This is not a pitching event, and nobody will be asked to invest.
