https://andybrowneofficial.com“Browne cites Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, and Frank Sinatra as musical inspirations, along with bands like R.E.M. and The Clash, whom The Nightporters played with once upon a time. His solo work is distinct from his work with collaborators, such as Lynx Deluxe. He credits the desire to change things up genre-wise to Bowie”.
Sammie Purcell (Rough Draft Atlanta)
“There is a grit and punk edge to his songs yet a presence of loss as well, heartache and self punishment thrown in for good measure”.
Larry Lamon The OHM
“His music holds a few sharply honed edges, which can be traced to the art-punk scene that spawned the Nightporters, and also bears painful evidence of life’s bruising nature, and even a knockout or two”.
Doug DeLoach (Creative Loafing Atlanta)
“But make no mistake, while Browne may share common musical themes here and there with some of his contemporaries and heroes, he manages to create a deeply original sound of his own”
John B. Moore (Neufutur)
Andy Browne has enough history to fill an interview without ever reaching the present.
As a young musician in Atlanta, he fronted The Nightporters, opened for The Clash and crossed paths with R.E.M. at a time when the city’s alternative music scene was beginning to take shape. Yet Browne makes it clear very quickly that nostalgia is not what interests him most.
“These days my only concern is with the now,” he says.
That perspective runs through his current work. The punk background is still part of him, but so are Bowie, The Beatles, jazz, blues, folk, country and the quieter rhythms of everyday life. These days, a walk with his dog Samson can apparently carry as much creative weight as an old backstage story.
