Chelsea Space and iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts) present, If you like rice, you’ll understand – Collective Noise - a cross site exhibition, events programme and publication with artist and educator Andrew Pierre Hart.
The project forms the beginning of a new collaboration between cultural neighbours: a joint artist programme between iniva and Chelsea Space, Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London (UAL).
‘If you like rice, you’ll understand – Collective Noise is a new project by Andrew Pierre Hart that draws on Stuart Hall's cultural studies and pedagogical legacy to explore sound as a form of learning and cultural exchange. Bringing together painting, photography, moving image, text and sound, the project considers how knowledge travels through everyday practices, informal gatherings, and sonic experiences.
Developed through personal travel, artistic research, and ongoing engagement with the Stuart Hall Library, Andrew will examine the relationship between sound and diasporic experiences, inviting audiences to reflect on how cultural knowledge is produced and shared across communities.
The public programme will be used as the framework to explore gatherings and collective spaces for learning as modes of action outside of the country’s current political rhetoric. Using iniva and Chelsea Space as catalysts for experimentation and reflection, Andrew will consider how different ways of coming together might be imagined and experienced.
Exhibition runs 2 October – 11 December 2026, Tuesday - Friday, and the first Saturday of every month (3 October, 7 November, and 5 December), from 10am - 5pm.

About the artist
Andrew Pierre Hart is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice is based in Painting, the main focus of his work is the symbiotic relationship between sound and painting. Andrew’s practice is an ongoing rhythmic research and play of improvised and spontaneous generative processes, through various mediums: Sound, Video, Performance, Found object and Image, Language, Photography and Installation.
By proposing Painting and Sound, through the notion of cross-modality, reconstructing languages, and idea generation, his practice responds ad infinitum: an improvisation of improvisation. All of this is translated through the action of play and experimentation; a new wave expanded painting.
