Before our monthly meeting of the RI Sapphics Literary Salon, we're hosting Grace Calk, who will be discussing the works of the OG sapphic: Sappho! This is free and Grace will be offering a reading before engaging with the audience in an intimate Q&A.
We'll be hosting this from 5-6pm before we meet from 6-8pm for RI Sapphics' Literary Salon!
About the book:
Sappho: A Translating contains Greek-to-English translations of 25 fragments of the Ancient Greek poet Sappho, paired with the original Greek text on one side and interwoven with lyrical commentaries from translator Grace Calk. The book features a transcripted interview between Sun Thief Press editors and Ms. Calk, as well as an extensive “reader’s lexicon” that familiarizes the reader with the Greek language and highlights the translator’s creative decisions.
About the author:
Grace Calk is a literary translator specializing in Ancient Greek. She is a graduate of St. John’s College, Annapolis, after which she went on to receive her M.A. in Literary Translation in 2025 from the University of East Anglia under the British Centre for Literary Translation. She splits her time between New York and Providence, Rhode Island, where she co-runs Sun Thief Press. This is her first book.
