"Light into the Dungeon:" A Jack O' Lantern Experience

Experience the Old New-Gate Pr*son & Copper Mine like never before! In the late 18th century, people incarcerated at New-Gate Pr*son were housed in the abandoned copper mine in total darkness. Celebrate the Fall season with us as we bring “Light into the Dungeon.” Explore the 100-yard loop of the underground copper mine illuminated by a display of 400 professionally carved Jack O' Lanterns.

Visit Details

• Advanced Tickets Required.
• Tickets cost $20 for adults & $10 for youth (17 and under).
• Children being carried through the mine do not need a ticket (2 yrs. and younger)
• Arrive ANYTIME during your timeslot to be admitted into the copper mine and Pr*son yard. 60 tickets are sold per timeslot and 15 people will be allowed down every 15 minutes- you can take as long as you like once you are down below.
• Guides will be stationed throughout the mine, but the experience underground is primarily self-guided and can last as long or short as you prefer.
• Tickets also include admission to the above-ground Pr*son yard.
• The Pr*son yard includes ruins, cells, and special exhibits, which are also available for self-exploration.
• You are welcome to stay beyond your timeslot to keep exploring.
• Refunds must be requested via Eventbrite.

Mine Conditions

• There are 33 steps down to the mining landing which is 35 feet below ground.
• Visitors can explore the 100-yard loop of the mine.
• The lowest tunnel is 4 feet high.
• The mine is consistently 52 degrees, wet, and dimly lit.
• We ask that visitors consider their medical history and physical limitations before descending to the mine.
• Strollers, wheelchairs, walkers, and similar devices are not permitted.
• Closed-toed shoes are strongly recommended.
