Join us on Saturday, October 24, 2:00-4:00pm for an afternoon of poetry from Had I a Dove: Appalachian Poets on the Helene Flood, winner of the 2025 Weatherford Award for Poetry.Edited by North Carolina poet Hilda Downer, this collection gathers the voices of poets—many directly impacted by the Helene Flood—whose work bears witness to devastation, resilience, and the urgent realities of climate change in Appalachia. The poems span the spectrum of grief, resilience, and reflection, while also drawing attention to the broader issues of environmental exploitation and its consequences.
Readers include Wally Smith, Bristol’s own David Winship, Eleanor Hjemmet with accompanist Tom Antonucci, Ann Shurgin, and Hilda Downer.
Proceeds from book sales at the event will benefit the Helene Flood Relief Fund.
