“Dear Jeanne” is a deeply personal program centred on violinist Yolanda Bruno’s album tribute to her late teacher and mentor, the Canadian-American baroque violinist Jeanne Lamon, who served as Music Director of Tafelmusik for 33 years and as Principal Baroque Leader of Symphony Nova Scotia. Joined by baroque violinist Julia Wedman and cellist Christina Mahler, both longtime artists with Tafelmusik, Bruno explores music by J.S. Bach and Antonio Vivaldi, including Lamon’s own string trio arrangement of Bach’s Ciaccona. Accordionist Michael Bridge joins the ensemble as a special guest for Vivaldi’s spirited “La Follia,” bringing an exciting additional voice to the program. The performance will be followed by a screening of the companion documentary, “The Immortal Serafin,” offering audiences a deeper look into the project, the recording, and the musical legacy behind it.

INTERMISSION
Following intermission, audiences will enjoy a screening of “The Immortal Serafin,” a documentary produced by Yolanda Bruno, directed by Robert DiVito, and developed by Michael Bridge. The film traces the fascinating history of Jeanne Lamon’s treasured 1759 violin, made in Venice by renowned luthier Santo Serafin. Through interviews with violin antiquarian and restorer Ric Heinl, former Tafelmusik violinist and restorer Jaak Liivoja, and Tafelmusik’s former longtime Managing Director Ottie Lockey, alongside Bruno’s own performances and reflections, the documentary explores the enduring relationship between a historic instrument, the musicians who bring it to life, and the music they create. Drawing parallels between the preservation of precious instruments and the natural world, the film also offers a reflection on the importance of environmental conservation.
