About this Event
"Butter Woman" by Tuere T. S. Ganges and Samille Ganges (a.k.a. plantainfutures) is a one hour life-sized puppet performance that reclaims and reimagines an African folktale once distorted by colonial retellings. The work emerges from the desire to preserve stories that center Black and Brown lineages, connect us to the Motherland and resist erasure.
Samille Ganges/Plantainfutures(she/her/we) is a theatre artist, breathwork practitioner, community organizer and puppeteer living in Bvlbancha. Holding a B.A. in Musical Theatre from NJCU and is a lover of the performing arts. They explore the human experience through art and creativity. And can be found working between Art, Land, Healing and Liberation. Samille offers programming under the name ,Plantainfutures and intends to be in collaboration with her environment, just like the mighty W**d we are named after. This year Samille made their emerging Puppeteer debut in this year’s, Giant Puppet Festival in New Orleans. She is eager to continue to make and mount original works and to deepen her artistic curiosities.
