Lon Wright/ A Compulsive Life/ Solo ShowNovember 2nd– December 12th, 2026
Opening Reception: November 2nd from 5–630pm
Artist statement:
My recent work explores the reality of living with obsessive-compulsive disorder and the ways OCD can affect thoughts, routines, emotions, and everyday life. I want my work to challenge the common misconception that OCD is simply being clean, organized, or particular. For me, OCD is much more complex and consuming. It can turn ordinary thoughts and actions into overwhelming cycles of fear, doubt, repetition, and the need for certainty.
Through repetition, mark-making, distorted imagery, symbolism and more, I visually represent the feeling of being trapped inside these cycles. The repeated marks and obsessive details in my work are intentional, reflecting how something that may appear small or insignificant from the outside can become incredibly powerful internally.
My goal is not to make OCD look beautiful or romanticize it, but to make an invisible struggle easier to understand. I want viewers to recognize the true severity of the disorder. I hope my artwork creates a sense of discomfort and emotional tension that allows viewers to experience, even briefly, the overwhelming nature of OCD. Most importantly, I want people who see my work to understand that OCD is not a personality trait or a preference for neatness. It is a serious mental disorder that can deeply affect and eventually control a person’s life.
