What is Huna?
Huna is the modern Western label given to the ancient healing and spiritual shamanism of ancient Hawai`i. The teachings have been passed down through particular family lineages, and were once secret and carefully guarded â but today, some families teach Huna openly. Huna is sometimes associated with neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) or hypnosis, but it is distinctly different from these practices. Instead, Huna is a way of thinking, doing, and being, with processes and techniques that can assist you in your personal, professional, and spiritual growth and development.
Family Lineage:
The schoolâs Huna lineage, HÄlau Ho`omanaloa (School of Energetic Empowerment) in Kona, Hawai`i, descends from the Bray and James families, with significant influence from Uncle George Na`ope, Kumu John Ka`imikaua, and Aunty Bernie (Na`ope) Konanui. Our current teacher is Kumu/Dr. Matthew James. It is now called the Bray-James lineage. This is an unbroken Huna lineage of 121 generations.

This workshop is for anyone interested in spirituality, energy work, and releasing negative emotions. If youâve ever held onto a grudge for monthsâor even yearsâand felt its weight on a physical level, or if you wish to explore Hawaiian culture and the wisdom of Huna, this gathering may be for you.
Many of us struggle to let go of the past. We find ourselves repeating the same patterns, feeling caught in a cycle of dĂ©jĂ vu, or wishing for change but not knowing howâor ifâitâs even possible. If this sounds familiar, you are not alone.
Huna, the ancient wisdom of Hawaiâi, offers both insight and practical tools for these challenges. It helps us understand why we feel as we do and shows us ways to restore harmony. Through this workshop, youâll learn how to live more ponoâin alignment with yourself and othersâwhile freeing yourself from old attachments and burdens. Weâll also explore Hoâoponopono, the Hawaiian practice of forgiveness, to help you move forward with greater clarity and peace.
On the first day, weâll focus on the principles of Huna, releasing negative emotions, and exploring the roots of these feelings and ways to manage them on your own. On the second day, weâll begin working with energy symbols, which this Huna family lineage is a caretaker of, that can clear, restore, and harmonize energy. These tools can support personal growth, therapeutic work, or professional practice by strengthening boundaries and deepening effectiveness.
Even if you already have a spiritual or healing practice, Huna can enrich and expand what youâre doing. Many participants discovered that this wisdom filled a gap they didnât realize was missing.
Sachiko has been practicing Huna since 2009, and its teachings have deeply supported her personally and professionally. They provided the âmissing equationâ I had long been searching for.
I warmly welcome you to this introductory class. Please reach out if you have any questions and let me know if youâd like to be added to my newsletter for future workshops in the Seattle area.
With Much Aloha! đșđđș

Testimonials from the last workshops:
"Bless you for having guided me to Huna!"
~ MR
"I enjoyed the workshop very much! I have been in other Huna sessions and there is always something new, something that I forgot or something that I didn't catch in previous sessions. The location was fantastic, with opportunities to go for a walk during our breaks. The sessions were very dynamic, allowing our group to practice and interact with each other.
Kumu Karen was amazing! Her energy, her vast knowledge, and her welcoming personality made us feel at home right from the beginning. She is the reason why I came back to this workshop. I love her teaching style and how approachable and understanding she is to our "sometimes silly" questions. I feel this workshop gave us the right tools and the foundation to understand energy at a beginning level and to practice in our every-day life.
I strongly recommend this workshop to any person interested in learning about Huna, learning about energy, and learning about themselves in a different perspective. Thanks Kumu Karen and Sachiko for making this workshop possible!"
