ANCIENT DESIGN: ALBUM LAUNCHFriday, 20 November 2026
8pm
The Grace Emily Hotel
FREE ENTRY
Ancient Design are finally releasing the album we recorded seven years ago and then, with impressive commitment, failed to release.
Joining us are our good friends Porchlight Parade, with their signature blend of rich harmonies and acoustic alt-folk storytelling, alongside Richfield, the folk duo of Gruff Richards and Deb Tapfield, longtime collaborators and familiar faces on the local folk scene.
So, naturally, we’ve put all of this together in one room.
We’d love to see the friends, old and new, who’ve been part of the journey, including those who quite reasonably assumed this album was never coming out.
Three acts, a room we love, and a record finally escaping into the wild.
------
Ancient Design are finally releasing an album.
We recorded it seven years ago, which by normal music industry standards is perhaps a little leisurely. In our defence, there were several multi-year breaks, various wanderings, the occasional resurfacing, and a general reluctance to behave like a properly functioning musical enterprise.
It’s nine tracks of dark, moody and experimental music drifting around the edges of psychedelic rock, trip-hop, blues and ambient soundscapes. There are grooves, strange noises, guitars, electronics and songs that occasionally wander off somewhere without feeling particularly obliged to come back.
Basically, five musicians stopped worrying about what genre they were making and began making questionable artistic decisions with complete confidence.
This isn’t really a reunion, because that would imply we formally broke up. It isn’t a comeback, because that would suggest we went somewhere.
It’s simply Ancient Design doing what Ancient Design apparently does: disappearing for an unreasonable length of time, then emerging from the fog carrying something strange.
We’re launching it at The Grace Emily Hotel on Friday, 20 November, with Porchlight Parade and Richfield, and entry is free.
The Grace has always felt like the right sort of room for us.
We’d genuinely love to see the people who’ve been part of this journey, along with anyone curious enough to come and see what took us seven years and we’d very much like you there when we let it out.
