"Upon brief inspection, links can be found to create relationships between three of the four works chosen for this recital. There is a work written by Ysaÿe (Sonata No. 3), a work written for Ysaÿe (Chausson’s Poeme) and a work written in the same year as Ysaÿe’s sonata (Bloch’s Nigun) in 1923. Though all three convey a mixture of emotions ranging from dark and sorrowful, to brilliant and beautiful, each does so in its own distinct way. The fourth work by Handel doesn’t have any distinct connection to the other three but instead serves as a counterweight of sorts, balancing out the other three through a more simple display of beauty and, for the most part, cheery disposition." — Jonah SpriggsGeorge Frideric HANDEL Violin Sonata in D Major, HWV 371
