About this Event
Attendees will take a trip to CDFW’s Napa-Sonoma Marshes Wildlife Area to see first-hand how the department is monitoring wildlife presence, wildlife movement, and climate change on state lands as part of California Sentinel Sites for Nature. Following a brief introduction to the Sentinel Site initiative and Napa-Sonoma Marshes Wildlife Area, CDFW staff will guide attendees around the property to view and discuss various pieces of monitoring equipment and techniques, which include wildlife cameras, wildlife sound recorders, a weather station, and a Motus wildlife tracking station.
Napa-Sonoma Marshes Wildlife Area represents one of 42 CDFW properties and over 100 total properties across California with Sentinel Site long-term biodiversity and climate monitoring locations. These sites are part of a monitoring network developed to evaluate and quantify biodiversity trends in response to climate, land use change, and other shifting environmental conditions across the state. This information will be used to guide defensible, science-backed decisions related to natural resources management, and evaluate the efficacy of the 30x30 initiative.
