There is more to our history than simply saying, “Our land was stolen.” The question is, how did it happen? For the past six years, the Lucinda Hickory Research Institute (LHRI) has been investigating the Allotment Era in Indian Territory. For its founder, Tatianna Duncan, confronting the legacy of this history has been a lifelong reckoning.
The historical record tells a story of broken promises, manipulation, exploitation, and laws that too often protected those who profited rather than the Native people they were supposed to protect.
But there is another part of this history that deserves to be told: the stories of our ancestors, their choices, their struggles, and their determination to survive.
Join us for an evening of historical discovery, conversation, and community engagement as we examine the documents, challenge familiar narratives, and explore what really happened during the Allotment Era.
This is more than a presentation. It is an investigation. An invitation to reclaim our history through research, documentation, and the voices of descendants.
This was never just one Indian family's story. It's our history.
