About this Event
Learn introductory basket weaving using locally-sourced plant materials including introduced, non-native vines like English Ivy at Edgemere Farm in Far Rockaway, Queens, NY. With artist/educator Rebecca Naegele, learn how to weave baskets together while considering sustainable and ecological material sourcing. Some basic plant identification and land stewardship concepts relevant to the greater NYC region will be introduced, and all tools and materials will be provided.
Edgemere Farm is a volunteer-run, zero-profit urban farm with a mission of education, food justice, and providing agricultural, musical, and cultural programming to the historically underserved and environmentally disadvantaged neighborhood of Edgemere, Queens, and the Rockaway Peninsula at large.
