About this Event
Chip Herrington’s love for music started at just seven years old, when he discovered an old cornet and beginner band book in the attic of his childhood home in Columbia, Mississippi. By the end of the day, he had taught himself the C scale and was already playing songs. He hasn’t stopped since.
Best known as the trumpet player for Wet Willie’s Hurricane Horns and band leader of The Mobile Big Band Society, Chip has also performed with legendary artists including Aretha Franklin and Lou Rawls. His trumpet can be heard on recordings by Eric Erdman, Donna Hall, Tom Riepl, and others! People’s Room regulars may also recognize him alongside Lisa Mills, providing what she affectionately calls “Sexy Muted Trumpet.”
More recently, Chip has focused his efforts on bringing authentic jazz to the Gulf Coast. The Chip Herrington Jazz6 delivers something that has become increasingly rare: real acoustic jazz performed the way it was meant to be heard: up close, in an intimate club setting.
Think great players, a small room, and an evening of honest-to-goodness lounge jazz.
Real jazz and The People’s Room — a perfect match.
