About this Event
Sir Alastair Nathan Cook CBE is England's leading Test Run scorer of all time and is coming to the Isle of Man as our guest speaker, on Thursday 12th November 2026, at an event sponsored by Standard Bank (Isle of Man).
The 41-year-old Gloucester born cricket legend played in 161 test matches and scored 12,472 runs.
Universally acknowledged as an opening batsman of immense poise, grit and skill, Sir Alastair made his debut with the Test side in 2006 and became England’s all-time leading run scorer in 2015. He captained the Team from 2012 to 2016, is a three-time Ashes winner and the 5th highest run-scorer in the history of Test Cricket.
Cook’s unique talent and flair, combined with outstanding leadership qualities, relentless drive and commitment, have propelled him to the Olympian Heights.
There is an interesting musical link to his career success. As a chorister and boarding pupil at St Paul’s Cathedral School, a hectic practice and rehearsal schedule imbibed the young Alastair with what was to become his legendary resilience and self-discipline.
The evening will be hosted by the brilliant Geoff Miller OBE, former England cricketer and selector, who is a highly respected figure on the after dinner speaking circuit. Geoff is sure to have our audience in raptures, with a plethora of amusing recollections and in depth analysis of the game he loves. These qualities have seen him twice voted Sporting Speaker of the Year and Cricket Speaker of the Year for the past 4 years.
