Magic City Books is pleased to present a special event with Ayad Akhtar in celebration of his new novel, The Radiance. This free event will take place at 101 Archer, 101 E. Archer Street in the Tulsa Arts District on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 7:00pm.He will be in conversation with Brian Jones, author and educator.
The Radiance releases on September 29, 2026, and you can purchase a copy through Magic City Books ahead of time or at the event.
About the Author
Ayad Akhtar is a novelist and playwright. His work has been published and performed in over two dozen languages. He is the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the Edith Wharton Citation of Merit for Fiction, and an award in literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, among other honors. Akhtar is the author of the novels American Dervish, a Kirkus Reviews Best Book of the Year, and Homeland Elegies, named one of 10 Best Books of 2020 by The New York Times. He has also authored the plays McNeal, Junk, Disgraced, The Who & The What, and The Invisible Hand. Akhtar was named the New York State Author in 2021.
About the Moderator
Brian Jones is an educator, scholar, and activist. He serves as Senior Director of Reading and Engagement at the New York Public Library. He holds a PhD in Urban Education from CUNY Graduate Center. He is the author of The Tuskegee Student Uprising: A History and Black History Is for Everyone. Jones is a longtime member of the board of directors of Voices of a People's History of the United States. His writing has appeared in the New York Times, Guardian, Jacobin, and Chalkbeat.
