Bookmark is pleased to be hosting an evening of poetry and music to celebrate the launch of Yvette Doucette’s new poetry collection This is How I Connect to You: Poetry and Memoir and Todd MacLean’s new album Cairn on Tuesday, November 10th at 7:00 pm in the Beaconsfield Carriage House. This event is free and all are welcome.
This is How I Connect to You is filled with challenge, intimacy, and myth, revealed in the moments of everyday living. Yvette’s writing is rooted in a desire to know what can be known. She says, "It takes practice, takes trust, to give and receive fearlessly." Her writing invites conversation, asks questions, and contains the fire of sorrow, but these poems don't despair. They shiver with loss, careen towards surrender, offer up hope green and wriggling, and yes, love too.
For the first time, Todd MacLean has recorded an album of fully instrumental pieces on the saxophone. Released on October 2, the 14-track studio album Cairn was recorded at Guernsey Cove Parlour Productions by Gordon Belsher. Featuring mostly slower Celtic air traditionals, with accompaniment session work by some of the Island’s finest musicians, the album also features three poems from Yvette’s book This is How I Connect to You.
YVETTE DOUCETTE's poetry and memoir-writing have appeared in several collections, including Arts East Online, The Great Black North, and Deep Water Pearls: A Collection of Women's Memoir. She is the recipient of numerous PEI literary awards, including the Award for Distinguished Contribution to the Literary Arts and the inaugural Island Literary Award for Young Writers Service. Yvette has been an actor, a writer and performer of monologues, and is a writing workshop facilitator.
TODD MACLEAN is a multi-instrumentalist who enjoys the great pleasure of playing alongside many of the best musicians that comprise the vibrant PEI music scene. As a saxophonist, pianist and guitarist, he has performed and toured internationally, is a member of several successful music ensembles on the Island, has recorded three solo studio albums, is a multiple Music PEI Award and ECMA award winner, and was named PEI’s Musician of the Year in 2011 and in 2026.
