An Evening of Mystery in 1820 EdwardsvilleThe candles are lit, the fires are burning, and something has gone terribly wrong at Stephenson House.
Join us for an intimate evening of mystery, intrigue, and murder within the walls of this historic home. On February 27 from 5-8 pm, you won’t simply be visiting Stephenson House. You’ll become part of a mystery.
Each guest will be assigned a character, complete with a personal biography and a place in the unfolding drama. You’ll dress for the part, step into the world of 1820, and spend the evening among people who may not be quite who they seem.
The evening unfolds in rounds, with each bringing new information, revelations, and opportunities to uncover the truth. At the beginning of each portion of the evening, you’ll receive a booklet containing the information your character is meant to share. What happens from there is up to you. This is a free-form mystery, not a scripted performance. There are no lines to memorize and no audience watching from the sidelines. Every guest is part of the mystery, and every conversation may bring you closer to solving the murder—or lead you further astray.
Throughout the evening, enjoy mocktails and hors d’oeuvres, dinner, dessert, and live music in this historic setting with the warm glow of candlelight and the flicker of fires in the fireplaces. With only ten guests gathered within the historic house, the atmosphere will be intimate, immersive, and full of intrigue.
Come in costume. Guests are responsible for assembling an outfit appropriate to their assigned character, or may choose to be outfitted from the Stephenson House wardrobe for an additional $75 (clothing is first-come, first-served with limited supplies available). Character assignments and biographies will be provided in advance so you can prepare for your role.
For three hours, leave the present day behind. Follow the clues, question your fellow guests, guard your secrets, and decide whom you can trust. In a town like Edwardsville in 1820, everyone has a reputation to protect—and someone may have a very good reason to keep the truth buried.
Ten guests. One murder. Countless secrets.
Can you discover the truth before the evening comes to an end?
