About this Event
An Evening Celebrating Scarborough’s Bluefin Tuna
Thursday 12 November 2026
Join us for a very special evening celebrating the history and return of Bluefin Tuna to the North East coast.
We’ll begin at The Tunny Club, Scarborough, the original 19th hole for tunny fisherman back in the day. Enjoy a welcome drink from 6pm, before heading to the nearby Golden Grid for a special supper of 2 courses with Bluefin Tuna served as the main course.
After supper, local fisherman Rupert Drury will take us on an illustrated journey through the history of tuna fishing along the North East coast. Rupert fishes internationally and is a wealth of knowledge on the subject. He’ll share the story of Scarborough’s famous tunny fishing days, as well as what is happening locally today.
In August 2024, Rupert caught the first North Sea Bluefin Tuna recorded in 70 years
It promises to be a fascinating evening of history, food, fishing and local storytelling, celebrating something that has been part of Scarborough’s heritage for generations and is now returning to our waters.
