Dive into the dramatic true story of the steamship Pulaski with Drawn to the Sea artist Richard J. King during a FREE outdoor lecture at Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum!King will explore the catastrophic 1838 boiler explosion and sinking of the luxury steamship Pulaski and share how he transformed this maritime disaster into comic art and illustrations for the museum’s Drawn to the Sea exhibition. Learn how history, research, visual storytelling, and sequential art come together to bring the past to life in a completely different way.
King will also discuss his other ocean-inspired books and illustrations, along with his work writing about marine life for Sea History magazine.
The lecture is FREE to attend and will take place outdoors at Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum. Regular museum admission applies for guests who would also like to explore the museum and Drawn to the Sea exhibition.
This program is presented in partnership with Georgia Southern University’s History Department and College of Arts and Humanities through funding from a Jack N. and Addie D. Averitt Foundation Grant.
