AMMAR 808:
I løbet af de seneste år har Sofyann Ben Youssef aka AMMAR 808 gang på gang bevist, at han mestrer kunsten at bygge hele nye universer af lyd. Først med “Maghreb United”, hvor han transformerede nordafrikanske traditioner til en futuristisk klubdrøm, og sidenhen med “Global Control / Invisible Invasion”, hvor han kastede sig frygtløst over sydindiske musiktraditioner og de mytiske fortællinger fra Mahabharata.
Med sit seneste album vender AMMAR 808 blikket hjemad. “Club Tounsi” er en eksplosiv og bastung hyldest til Mezoued – en rå, folkelig og historisk udskældt genre, båret af sækkepiber af gedeskind, håndtrommer og tekster om kærlighedens smerte og hverdagens pres. Det er musikken fra Tunisiens gader, fra arbejderklassen, fra de utæmmede bryllupsnætter hvor fezzani-rytmen sætter skub i dansegulvet. AMMAR 808 tager denne tradition og lader den kollidere med synths, mekaniske beats og dystopisk klubæstetik, så traditionens puls bliver både fremmed og forførende velkendt. Og under Vinterjazz transformerer AMMAR 808 koncertsalen på ALICE til en tunesisk natklub i fuldt kog, når han giver koncert. Mbizo er et etableret navn på den danske elektroniske undergrundsscene og medlem af event-kollektiverne Lokal, Vesterbro- og Nørrebro Bas Klub. Hans seneste mixtape for Strøm blev udvalgt af Resident Advisor som ‘’Mix Of The Day’’ med titlen ‘’An impeccable production mix’’. Han medvirker også på de danske compilation-LP’er ‘’Danish Dub’’ part 1 og 2 sammen med 2000F, og er senest aktiv med officielle remixes for store danske artister som Bikstok, Raske Penge & Klumben og AV AV AV. Med et bevidst udgangspunkt i dubmusik, bliver elementer fra genrer som grime, dubstep, breaks og UK funky også inkorporeret – Mbizo repræsenterer bas- og soundsystem-kulturen. Mbizo spillede på ALICE under åbningsugen sidste år og vi glæder os til at præsentere ham igen, når han denne gang spiller et liveset.

Over the past years, Sofyann Ben Youssef aka AMMAR 808 has repeatedly proven his mastery of building entirely new sound worlds. First with “Maghreb United”, where he transformed North African traditions into a futuristic club dream, and later with “Global Control / Invisible Invasion”, where he fearlessly explored South Indian musical traditions and the mythical tales of the Mahabharata.
With his latest album, AMMAR 808 turns his gaze homeward. “Club Tounsi” is an explosive, bass-heavy tribute to Mezoued – a raw, popular and historically stigmatized genre driven by goatskin bagpipes, hand drums and lyrics about heartbreak and the pressures of everyday life. This is the music of Tunisia’s streets, of the working class, of untamed wedding nights where the fezzani rhythm lights up the dance floor. AMMAR 808 takes this tradition and lets it collide with synths, mechanical beats and dystopian club aesthetics, making its pulse feel both alien and irresistibly familiar. And during Vinterjazz, AMMAR 808 will transform the concert hall at ALICE into a Tunisian nightclub in full boil.

Mbizo is an established name in the Danish underground scene of electronic music and he is a member of the event collectives Lokal, Vesterbro- and Nørrebro Bas Klub. His latest work for Strøm (Strøm Mixx 044) got featured at Resident Advisor’s series ‘’Mix Of The Day’’ with the title ‘’An impeccable production mix’’. He also appears on the Danish compilation LP’s ‘’Danish Dub’’ part 1 and 2 together with 2000F, and has recently been active with official remixes for big Danish artists like Bikstok, Raske Penge & Klumben and AV AV AV. With a conscious foundation in dub music, elements of grime, dubstep, UK funky, and breaks are also mixed in - Mbizo represents bass and soundsystem culture. We're looking forward to presenting Mbizo again, this time playing a live set.
