Kurt is also a bestselling novelist, the creator of the People’s Republic thrillers, and others. His latest book is American Warlord, a novel set in a near-future America where political civil war and a bioengineered plague have resulted in the fall of America as we know it.
In American Warlord, a deadly new virus wipes out 80% of the population, leaving the United States in ruins and its surviving citizens struggling to restore order. As government institutions collapse and lawlessness spreads, Vic Kinkaid, an ordinary trucking manager with a passion for Roman history, finds himself in an unlikely position of leadership. Faced with violent raiders, desperate communities, and the breakdown of modern society, Vic must find a way to rebuild civilization from the ground up as a new American warlord.
Drawing on their shared experience serving in the National Guard during the 1992 Los Angeles riots, Schlichter and DeVore will discuss the novel’s portrayal of societal collapse, the fragility of the institutions Americans take for granted, and the role of ordinary citizens in restoring order during extraordinary circumstances.
