About this Event
What can an ancient Greek story about a long journey home tell us about the American Republic?
Americans have always been a restless people, drawn to the open road and the next frontier. Homer’s Odyssey is, at its heart, a story about the longing for home. In his latest book, American Odyssey: What an Ancient Story Reveals about Our Divided Souls, Dr. Patrick J. Deneen, Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame, reads the epic alongside the American story, from Huckleberry Finn to It’s a Wonderful Life, and asks what our journeys and homecomings reveal about who we are.
Join us for a conversation about adventure and belonging, freedom and rootedness, and what it means to be at home in a republic.
