About this Event
The AMC is where the road to the USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad begins. We're hosting both sittings of the AMC 10 at Eastbridge Academy for our own students, and we have a few seats left over, so we're opening them up to any student in Grade 10 or below.
- 25 multiple-choice questions in 75 minutes, no calculators
- Run by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), the American counterpart to the CEMC and CMS contests
- A score of 100 or more on the AMC 10 qualifies you for the AIME on February 5 or 6, the next step toward the USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad
- Canadians are welcome all the way up: eligibility depends on attending school in the US or Canada, not on citizenship, so you can go as far as the AIME and the USAJMO
Why are there two dates? The MAA runs the AMC 10 twice every fall: the AMC 10A and the AMC 10B have the same format but different questions, and each is written on its own date. You can write whichever one suits your schedule, or both for a second chance. You only need to reach the AIME score on one of them, so it's your better mark that counts toward qualifying, and a weaker sitting won't count against you.
How to register
1) Pick up a ticket here for each sitting you want to write.
2) We'll email you the MAA's registration link for that sitting. The MAA asks a parent or guardian to complete it.
3) We approve you on our MAA roster, and you're all set.
Everyone who writes with us is also invited to the take-up in our Grade 9 & 10 Math class the week after each sitting, where we go through the problems and solutions together: Tuesday, November 10 for the 10A and Tuesday, November 17 for the 10B, 5:00-7:00 PM. It's free, and you don't need to be enrolled.
Preparing for contests like this one is a big part of what we do at Eastbridge Academy. Our Grade 9 & 10 Math class meets every week in a small group, working through contest-level problem sets (CLMC, Pascal, Cayley, AMC 10) with students presenting their own solutions.
