About this Event

The Department of Economics at SOAS and the Embassy of Brazil in London have joined forces to organise the event Amazon Dialogues, a series of three panels bringing together policymakers, academics and civil society organisations to discuss the challenges faced by the world's largest remaining tropical rainforest.

Protecting the Amazon Rainforest is undoubtedly a key global challenge. However, international discussions about the biome are often hampered by exoticising views and misunderstandings about the potential for equitable global coordination. Amazon Dialogues aims to contribute to fruitful conversations by bringing together policymakers and government officials from Brazil and Colombia, as well academics and civil society organisations with extensive experience in the region. The panels will focus on economic challenges, deforestation and global justice.
