After the Storm Productions, in association with YOUnique Studio and Tipsy and Tootsie Teasdale, is excited to premier a brand new original musical, Always A Little Bit Tipsy, this September right here in Bloomington! Directed by Michael Grubb with assistance by Emily Solt.Synopsis:
A radiant little boy, fearless in his tenderness and joy, learns too early that the world has rules about what a “man” should be. Shamed into conformity, he armors himself in a hard, brittle masculinity—trading empathy for approval, wonder for performance. The cost is steep: he becomes everything he once feared — disconnected, abrasive, hollow.
Years later, he stumbles into drag—a world where exaggeration reveals truth—and discovers the parts of himself he had to hide are the very source of his power.Through performance, he reclaims the exiled parts of himself—the softness, the play, the truth—and begins to stitch together a fuller, freer person.
This is a story about the violence of small shames, the masks we build to survive, and the radical, glittering act of becoming whole because all of us have a little bit of Tipsy in us just begging to break free.
Always a Little Bit Tipsy is an original work being written by Tom Slater, Ryan Chase, Nicholas Krohn, and Michael Grubb.
