About this Event
This show is a tribute by Alison Crockett to Chaka Kahn, who had a powerful influence on Alison. It is also a tribute to her father, who introduced Alison to jazz at an early age. One of the groups her father introduced her to, and which had a lasting impression on her, was the Griffith Park group of the early 1980's consisting of Freddie Hubbard, Chick Corea, Joe Henderson, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White. The evening will thus be a tribute to the artists who influenced Alison's sound and style.
The show features Alison Crocket on vocals and Thad Wilson on trumpet, with Allyn Johnson on keyboard, Michael Bowie on bass and Lenny Robinson on drums.

Alison Crockett
Soul and jazz diva Alison Crockett is an award-winning and prolific jazz, soul, and electronica vocalist. She has been described as a mixture of Nina Simone’s urgency, Betty Carter’s chops and Jill Scott’s sass. She has been featured on dozens of recordings, including King Britt's “When the Funk hits the Fan”, the acid jazz and hip hop mash up of Us3 “An Ordinary Day in and Unusual Place”, and two EPs and four full length records most notably the chart topping “On Becoming a Woman…”
Alison has released five albums, including "On Becoming A Woman" in 2003,, “Return of Diva Blue” in 2006, "Bare" in 2007, "Mommy, What's A Depression" in 2012, and "My Father's Record Collection Vol. 1" in 2023.
Alison has always been a craftsman, journeying through different genres, seeing the musical world through new eyes each time. She has toured the world several times over, working and recording with multiple artists in various genres.
Thad Wilson
Thad Wilson has been a fixture on the Washington, DC jazz scene since his arrival in 1997. Born in Wrightstown, New Jersey, and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Thad has studied the trumpet since age 12, and began arranging and composing at 18. He has gone on to perform with well-known artists such as George Benson, James Moody, Eddie Henderson, Steve Turre, Cecil Bridgewater, McCoy Tyner, Vanessa Ruben, and Roy Hargrove, among others.
