V úterý 6. října 2026 vystoupí v rámci cyklu Staročeský dýchánek Alessandro Benassi (Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples) s příspěvkem nazvaným „Medea in Bohemia: Female Sovereignty in Ariosto’s Cinque Canti“.Přednáška v angličtině se uskuteční v dolním sále pražské budovy Ústavu pro českou literaturu AV ČR (Na Florenci 1420/3) od 17 hodin, vstup je zdarma a bez registrace.
Anotace:
In Cinque Canti II, Ariosto describes a kingdom founded by Medea in the Bohemian Forest, an episode absent from every classical source on the sorceress. Drawing on Bohemian cultural history and its literary tradition, the lecture explores the origins of this invention within Renaissance networks linking Italy and Central Europe, and shows how Medea’s libertarian, communal, female-ruled kingdom echoes and subverts Charlemagne’s ideal sovereignty as a utopian model of female power.
