What Is Alchemy? From Matter, Plants & Medicine to Inner TransformationFree and Open to the Public
When most people hear alchemy, they think of turning lead into gold. But the history and meaning of alchemy are much richer.
Join Alchemy Joy for a community conversation exploring what alchemy is, how it developed across different historical and cultural traditions, and why its language of transformation still resonates today.
We’ll explore alchemy’s relationship with metals, plants, medicine, experimentation, philosophy, spirituality, and symbolism. We’ll also look at historical medicinal and spagyric traditions in which plant materials were separated, purified, refined, and recombined in preparations associated with health and well-being.
From there, we’ll consider how these same ideas of purification, refinement, balance, integration, and transformation can offer a meaningful framework for reflecting on inner wellness and change in our own lives.
No previous knowledge of alchemy is necessary.
Each Community Conversation includes a short presentation, facilitated discussion and questions, and an optional 10-minute guided meditation. This month’s meditation will focus on transformation, balance, reflection, and integration. Participation is always optional.
LaRonda Koffi is the founder of Alchemy Joy, a writer and 500-hour registered yoga teacher who pursues independent study in alchemy, consciousness, contemplative traditions, philosophy, plant traditions, and related esoteric subjects.
